How to play
- Place chips on numbers, colors, columns or other groups.
- The wheel spins and the ball lands in a pocket.
- Inside bets pay more and win less often. Outside bets pay less and win more often.
Best bets
- European (single zero) or French wheels.
- Even-money bets on La Partage or En Prison tables (1.35% edge).
- Choose by session length: fewer, bigger swings or more, smaller ones.
Avoid
- American double-zero wheels when single-zero is available.
- The American five-number bet, with a 7.89% edge.
- Betting systems such as Martingale, which do not change the edge and raise your risk of ruin.
For experienced players
Pro tips
- Edge is identical across bets on one wheel, so choose by variance.
- Table limits stop Martingale from working long before the math does.
- Online live roulette runs a similar pace to land-based: about 30 to 40 spins an hour.
